CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, DEVELOPMENT:
Where do I start with this review? I am not sure I can do the book justice; however, I will attempt to peak your interest in this captivating book. Lincoln Cole hooked me in the chilling prologue and held me in the palm of his hand through the rest of the book. As I read The Everett Exorcism, I found my heart pounding and chills on my arms. What an intriguing, scary read!
Father Niccolo Paladina, Father Jackson Reynolds, and demon Hunter Arthur Vangeest bring realism to this tale of demons, God, and the Catholic Church. I loved watching the characters grow and mature as Cole fully developed their style and personality. Cole included an array of secondary characters which brought depth to the storyline. As a result, The Everett Exorcism‘s an intense, action-packed drama of the age-old battle between good and evil. With elements of the paranormal, horror, religion, greed, and power, Cole crafted an intriguing emotional tale; including an Exorcist who does not believe in demons brought originality and realism to the story.
Father Paladina’s education readied him for a successful career as an Exorcist. He had all he needed except the belief in the existence of demons. How could he exorcise something, he did not believe existed. As a Man of God, Paladina had several characteristics which were not priestly; including his hatred of Arthur. His character’s believable with all the human traits, frailties, insecurities, and emotions felt by the rest of the world.
Although Arthur appears as an antagonist in the first half of the book, the reader sees a different Arthur in the last half. As Cole unfolded Arthur’s story, the reader finds a man filled with pain, regret, and determination. Paladina’s attitude changed as he came to see Arthur in a new light; he became a true believer in evil and demons. The reader will find Father Jackson Reynolds has a hidden talent; which will make him very valuable to the coming battle.
Lincoln Cole skillfully developed the antagonist of The Everett Exorcism; filling him with greed and the desire for more and more power. Cole placed him in a seat of religious authority where he uses his power and influence for evil. He’s the great pretender who appears pious.
MY OPINION:
I found The Everett Exorcism fast-paced and well-written. The characters are well-developed, full-bodied, realistic and believable. Cole created an intense drama with an original, refreshing storyline. He created an action-packed finale filled with demons and terror as they battle for the souls in small town Everett. Although part of a series, The Everett Exorcism‘s a standalone read. Cole gives the reader enough background to bring you up-to-date. I would not hesitate to buy this book for myself or a friend. I look forward to the next book in this series.
