STORY LINE FIRST CONTACT STRINGS ATTACHED:

First Contact Strings Attached, set on an industrial world, Zeon, is a fantasy ride.  Zalk invented a powerful telescope during a time period of the cart and horse, no electricity, and denial of other beings existence in the universe.  Ostracized for his beliefs, he has finally made his way back into the academic scientific world when he discovers he can mentally talk to a being, Sorba, on their neighboring revolving planet, Arken.  Sorba makes promises of huge benefits in return for help from Zalk and his world.  Or are there benefits?  Are the intentions of this being really as harmless as they seem?

Will these beings be friend or foe?  Are they on the road to friendship or to conquer?  Come along with Zalk as he ferrets out the truth and mysteries behind the request.

CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, AND DEVELOPMENT:

First I must say,  as I started reading this book, I found it was not my cup of tea.   Through no fault of the author, I actually found it hard going to get 35% into the book.  Sci-fi techno thrillers are not my usual interest.  That said, I must also state, after the first 35% I found myself engrossed in the story-line.  Mr. Nelson wove several plots together creating an intriguing story-line and the pace was in-keeping with the length of the novel.  I found I became hooked by the writer as I raced to the story’s conclusion.

Furthermore, I found Mr. Nelson writing was clean and clear.  Also, Mr. Nelson developed each character to their potential.  I found myself remembering the television series “V”, as the beings offer so much to Zalk along with accolades.  A world which has not advanced to electricity, cars, planes, and other inducements, find astounding offers in return for a little help.  Too good to be true, maybe.  Mr. Nelson crafted a surprise ending for first the book in this series as the story-line continues in the next book.

In concluding the review of First Contact Strings Attached, I found if you like techno thrillers, you will enjoy this book.  I found myself lost in the techno conversations and information and did not enjoy those portions of the book.  However, if you enjoy sci-fi techno thrillers, this is the book for you. You will find a well-developed and skillfully written story-line.

STARS 4

Even though I found First Contact Strings Attached was not my cup of tea, it deserves 4 stars for composition, writing style, plotting, development, and pacing.    I would not hesitate to purchase this book for a sci-fi techno thriller reader.
