STORY-LINE HIS STUBBORN SWEET BRIDE:
Proper English gentleman Nate Trowbridge and his sister, Leonie, inherited a ranch in the wild West of America. Informed by ranch hand Will everything’s in good shape, they journey to their new inheritance. However, upon arriving their lives take a sharp turn right.
Not only is the ranch in an awful state, but through no fault of his own Nate also finds himself engaged to Irish Molly Clanahan. Jem, through a series of hilarious events, delivered the proposal letter to the wrong woman. Molly refuses to release him from his written proposal. Instead of a gently bred young lady he intended to wed, Nate finds himself engaged to a “gold digging hayden” who is holding on to his proposal with an iron grip. Molly has reasons for refusing to go away quietly; reasons she holds secret. Leonie, a hopeless romantic, takes Molly under her wing; taking Molly’s side against her brother. Things are heating up on the ranch as Leonie refuses to believe Nate will turn Molly away.
When Molly secretly leaves the ranch, Nate decides to find out Molly’s secrets and history. He will find his reputation, honor, heart, and his very life, on the line in His Stubborn Sweet Bride. Oh the adventure ahead for all in this story. My Christian romance book reviews of His Stubborn Sweet Bride follows.
CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, DEVELOPMENT:
What an adventure is in store for the reader in this sweet clean Christian novel. Chloe Carley filled this novel with mystery, upper-crust English, secrets, and, of course, romance. With Molly’s desperation to stay and bring Nate to heel, and Nathan’s horror of the situation he found himself, I stayed glued to this story. Then Carley included a villain that no one would like. The Wild West was a time of lawlessness, greed, and wicked men. The villain, Jack, is the perfect example of wickedness; I couldn’t wait for him to get his due.
Leonie’s character while sweet is also very immature with a head full of romantic notions garnered from her favorite romance stories. Nate has a time dealing with her ideas of him and Molly riding off in the sunset happy ever after. At times I laughed out loud at Leonie’s notions, Jem’s loud proclamations of Molly’s characters, and other times I wanted to cried at the horror Molly had faced. Jem is out of depth dealing with Leonie and Molly. However, Jem has no problem telling all that he thinks of the gold-digging woman of low repute. Adding in the foul-mouthed stable boy, Will, added to the storyline. What a character Carley created in Will. I could not help but like the rascal.
MY OPINION:
With faith as the backbone of the characters and affairs of the heart which are sweet and clean, I loved this story. Carley‘s plotting is excellent and her characters well-developed. Incorporating the double standards of this time into her story, showed the hard life women endured. Carley‘s creation of the society and position obsessed English rubbing shoulders with the rowdy down to earth Americans insures a good read for all.
The scenes in this novel transition smoothly and Chloe Carley’s writing flows well and is easy to read. Although faith is included in the story and plot lines, it is not pushed on the reader nor is it the main topic of the book; instead, faith is an integral part of the characters lives. I laughed at Leonie’s antics, as well as Jem’s dismay and opinions, and despaired of our hero opening his eyes. Setting on the edge of my chair when reading the last third of the book, I couldn’t wait to get to the finale. Also, included is an extended epilogue, which the reader downloads.
I would not hesitate to recommend this novel to anyone who loves clean romance. A rising star in the Christian/inspirational genre, Chloe Carley entertains and engages the reader. I look forward to the next story brewing in Carley‘s imaginative mind.
