STORY LINE:
Maris McKinney is heart-sore after her domineering, controlling, emotionally abusive husband threw her out with only a small day bag of clothes. She is down but not out as she starts her own business, The Cake Company.
Lucas Kemsley was a renown surgeon until a near death accident took away his occupation. After his physical injuries and his post-recuperation, his fame and riches seeking girlfriend left him. Lucas is now in physical therapy to recoup his strength and skill; he is working with this father in construction next door to the bakery. Maris McKinney and Lucas meet by chance; let the fun, attraction, and mystery begins.
Come along as Maris and Lucas solve the mystery of his accident, subsequent behavior and begin the journey of healing body, heart, mind, and of course, love.
CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, AND DEVELOPMENT:
Author S. Carman Knight character creation in Maris and Lucas was real and likeable. Maris and Lucas’ characters grew throughout the story. Each of the main characters have issues that must be faced and resolved as well as mystery; everything from auto accidents, fires, faulty wiring, criminal investigations, revenge, emotional issues, and an attraction that is hot and steamy is included in this fast paced novel.
Ms. Knight included all the elements needed to create an intriguing story-line. I did not the see the villains of the mystery coming. What a surprise that was! Ms. Knight depicted the relationship between Lucas, his family, and friends with caring and skill; I loved his interaction and close relationships.
The pacing and development were on target. The mystery was introduced but not resolved until the end of the book and was intriguing as I did not put the pieces together correctly. The love scenes are hot, steamy, and burn the pages; this story does include some mild violence. Ms. Knight does not use sex to sell the story, rather the scenes are love between two physically and emotionally attracted adults. Personally, in any book I read, if the sex scenes are too explicit for me, I skip over those parts to get to the meat of the story.
i enjoyed this book; Ms. Knights writing-style and her story-telling skills were evident.
RECOMMENDATION: 4 STARS
This is a fun, fast-paced mystery romance. I recommend this book to young adults and adults due to sexual content and violence.
